SANDRA K. “SANDY” SMOLIRA
Sandra K. “Sandy” Smolira, 76, of Bethesda, Ohio, was welcomed into the hands of her Lord, September 23, 2021. She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, January 17, 1945 to the late Charles and Melba (Coe) Belyk.
Preceding Sandy in death was her best friend and husband of 54 years, Joe Smolira.
Sandy’s memory will forever be cherished by those who survive; sons, Joe Smolira of Nashville, Tennessee, Kurt (Melissa) Smolira of Bethesda, Wade (Lori) Smolira of Flushing; grandchildren, Taylor Benedetta, Kaleb (Kayla), Emy, Kolby, and Ayden Smolira; brother, Gary Belyk; and a host of treasured friends.
Deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, she attended mass daily and was an organist for Assumption Catholic Church. She greeted everyone with a smile, and a hug that radiated love. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, her family was her greatest blessing. She served on the Parish Council at St. Mary’s in Lafferty, taught pre-school in the Methodist Church basement, and was a teacher for Union Local and Barnesville schools. She served as principal at St. Adalbert Catholic School in Dillionvale. Sandy played the piano and organ, enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and like Joe, was a gourmand, enjoying good food. She was meticulous about cleanliness, enjoyed traveling and was always willing to be the passenger in any car, regardless of the destination. Those who knew Sandy were truly blessed.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 2, 2021, 10:00 am at Assumption Catholic Church, 306 W. Main Street, Barnesville. Father Dave Cornett, presiding. Interment will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lafferty.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Assumption Catholic Church.
