Mildred Mamula Obituary

Mildred (Mikesinovich)  Mamula, 99 passed away at Astoria Place in Barnesville, OH.  She was born January 31, 1923, in Dilles  Bottom, OH a daughter of the late Mike and Bertha (Visnic) Mikesinovich.

She was a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church of Steubenville, OH.  She probably would not have lived so long if it were not for her membership in the Martins Ferry Senior Center.  Mildred so enjoyed going there.

She lived through the great depression and WWII in the Mansfield Defense Factory Welding Pontoon.  From there she went to Dravo Neville Island and welded in the shipyard.  Her husband used to tease her and say no wonder the boats sank.  He fought the Japanese in the Philippines.   From the shipyards she came home to work at the Yorkville Mill as a crane operator until the war was over.  They gave their jobs back to the veterans as they came home.  The ladies worked some of the toughest jobs in the mill.  She agreed with Ed Pauley when he wrote that we were a great generation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Roy Mamula, four brothers;  Rudy, Coy, Mike , Sam and two brothers who died at a very young age George and Pete.

Left to cherish her memory are many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.  However, there are three nephews that were especially dear to Mildred and who took care of her, Coy Michaels, Tim McKaye and Mark Mikesinovich.

In keeping with Mildred’s wishes all services were private and held at the convenience of the family.  Private Committal was held at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.  Wilson Funeral Home – Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH proudly assisted the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, 528 N. 4th St., Steubenville, OH 43952
