Maximiliane McGilton Obituary

MAXIMILIANE L.E. MCGILTON

Maximiliane L.E. McGilton, age 79, of Morristown, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, March 11, 2021. She was born on November 2, 1941 in Munich, Germany to Maximilian and Maria Hertel. She married Elbert S. McGilton on December 19, 1963.

Maxi attended church at a variety of places including St. Mary’s Church and Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Maxi had a love for learning and reading, especially history. She enjoyed nature, animals, and playing Mexican Train with her friend, Barb Shepherd, while surrounded by her cats. The cats outside her house did not remain strays for very long. She was an avid piano player and artist.

She sponsored several children and donated to a large variety of charities. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved visits from numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; however, she longed for his sister, Hanni Manus, who lives in Germany.

She loved her two daughters, Christina McGilton and Catherine Schoppelrei and her beloved son-in- law, Eric Schoppelrei: her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Samuel, Emily, and Andrew Schoppelrei.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert S. McGilton and his sister, Alice Fulton; her parents, Maximilian and Maria Hertel; and her granddaughter, Amanda Jane Schoppelrei.

A Graveside Service will be held on March 19, 2021 at 3 pm at Union Cemetery in Morristown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Child Fund, an organization dear to Maxi’s heart or even consider sponsoring a child in Maxi’s stead.
