MARGARET I. POPE
Margaret I. (Kocsis) Pope, age 102, passed peacefully on January 9, 2021. Born in 1918 in Colerain, OH, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Agnes (Vasari) Kocsis. She lived most of her life in Flushing, OH, until moving to a nursing home in 2016.
She was a hardworking, independent, feisty woman who enjoyed taking care of her many cats, gardening, and watching the birds.
Early in her life, she was a pantry cook on a river boat going from Wheeling to Steubenville each day on excursions. She married John Pope in 1950 and lived in Cleveland, where they ran a convenience store. They then moved to Flushing, where they owned a Texaco station and ran a carry-out store with it. This was convenient, as John was a mechanic. She raised vegetables and fruit and did plenty of canning so they could sell the produce in their store. As a lover of country music, she attended several of the Jamboree in the Hills festivals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Pope (deceased 2002); brothers, Louis, Joseph, and Carl Gorza; Julius, Frank, Eugene, and Edward Kocsis; and sisters, Yerma Naples, Jennie Nester, and Elizabeth “Lee” Summers.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from Noon until the time of service, beginning at 1:00 PM, Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 322 N.
