AMerican Veteran 11

John H. Anderson

November 8, 1923 ~ January 14, 2021 (age 97)

John H. Anderson, 97, of Barnesville, Ohio, now rests peacefully, as he was welcomed to his eternal home, January 14, 2021.  Born November 8, 1923 in Barnesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Hubert and Annie Anderson, one of 14 children fulfilling the Anderson family.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Anderson; son, Bruce Anderson; daughter, Linda Sexton; brothers, Charles, Robert, Jack, Paul, and Donald Anderson; sisters, Helen and Catherine Boulet and Dorothy Morris.

John will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those who survive; his second wife, Jean Anderson of Barnesville; daughters, Judy (Gary) Lucas, Donna (John) Duch all of Barnesville, Mary (Allen) Withrow of Bethesda; son, Mike (Melinda) Anderson of Barnesville;  50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita (Tom) Jefferis, Norma Carpenter all of Barnesville, Eileen Britton of Jerusalem; brothers, Larry Anderson of Columbus, Ralph (Pat) Anderson of Barnesville; step-children, Tim Orr and Lori and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A United States Army veteran, John proudly served his county in World War II.  Serving under General Patton, John encountered 5 of Patton’s 6 battles.  Being honored with The Bronze Star during his service, John proudly placed it with his son, Bruce, when he passed away.  Larry, John’s brother, was so touched by John’s gesture, he had the medal replicated and presented it to John on his 90th birthday.  John was a member of the Elks, VFW, and American Legion.  There are so many things to say about John, but the most meaningful is his love for his family and friends; his values and integrity; and his passion for life and enjoying it to the fullest.

As it would be John’s wishes for all to be respectful of the current pandemic, private family only services will be held.  Interment will take place at Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.
