Fond F. Meade, 89, passed away March 2, 2019 at Belmont Community Hospital. Born March 13, 1929 in Pound, Virginia, he was the son of the late Oliver W. Meade and Dessie Bauguess Meade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Leora Meade, with whom he is now walking hand and hand with; brothers, Dempsey, Otto, Luther, and Tate; and sisters, Hazel, Pauline, and Lida.
Fond’s memory will forever be cherished by those who survive; son, Tony (Mary) Zimmerman Meade of Wellsburg, West Virginia; daughters, Kathy Meade (Kim Beedle) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cynthia Arnold (John Newsome) of Alpine, Texas, and Kathy (Miles) Pillar of Dover, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael and Bebe Pillar; sisters, Peggy, Cassie, Nell, Louise, and Judy; brothers, Abe, Jack, Bill, Rondall, and Phillip; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many, many special friends.
A kind and gentle man, he worked 37 years for Centre Equipment in Midvale, Ohio and for several years as a master mechanic for Fisher Brothers. He retired as owner of Hilltop Equipment, at the age of 84. He was a member of Rockhill Baptist Church and the International Union of Operating Engineers for 60 years. He enjoyed traveling, listening to Bluegrass Music, and visiting with family and friends.
A sister is God’s way of proving he doesn’t want us to walk alone. This was especially true for Fond, as his sister, Cassie, had been a special care giver for him over the past 3 ½ years. She was with him day and night and they traveled over 50,000 miles, making many beautiful memories together.
